Meet Amy

Amy Terceira, CTC, CSAP-BC

Certified trainer & counselor and separation anxiety behavior consultant

I help dogs and their people with complex behavior challenges in Bermuda. I enjoy setting puppies up to thrive too.

I look at the entire picture when when it comes to changing behavior. Health, stress levels, genetics, and meeting a dog’s needs play a big part. If the goal is to decrease unwanted behavior, I look at they why behind the behavior, as well as stress resilience and emotional well-being. Health and behavior are linked, and I collaborate with veterinarians when needed.

I know first hand what it is like to live with a dog with behavior challenges. When I adopted Stanley, a Border Terrier mix from a shelter in France, he was fearful of many things and some of that fear lead to aggression. I decided I was going to help him and started taking courses with certified clinical animal behaviorist Sarah Whitehead in the UK. Stanley is the main reason I started my business.

Next, I was accepted into an intensive two-year program at The Academy For Dog Trainers. I achieved my certified trainer & counselor (CTC) qualification from this school. I’m a graduate of separation anxiety specialist, Julie Naismith’s course, where I earned certified SA Pro behavior consultant (CSAP-BC). In addition, I’m a graduate of the college-level Unlocking Resilience course from Science Matters Academy of Animal Behavior.

Graduating from some of the best dog training and behavior programs in the world, means I’m a part of a top notch dog training community that I can consult with as needed. My education enables me to help dogs feel better and therefore behave better! I continue to do regular courses and webinars to stay up to date on the latest in animal behavior.

My focus is on sensitive and fearful dogs, as well as building positive social skills. I’ve been running weekly playgroups for over 13 years and have developed a skilled eye for reading dog body language. I enjoy bringing shy puppies out of their shell and helping their guardians connect with them.

Through my studies and the use of reward based training I was able to help Stanley build confidence and trust and live a wonderful life. Animal training, like any training, is a work in progress and requires dedication and consistency.

I’m equipped to help guardians understand their dogs and meet their training and behavior goals in a humane, compassionate and effective way.

I live with my partner and two sons, our Border terriers Tessa & Albert, (we lost dear Stanley a few years ago), and our horse Lucile in beautiful Bermuda.

Consumer Protection:

The dog training field is unregulated. There is no minimum education requirement or standard of care. Anyone can call themselves a trainer or behaviorist and take your hard earned money. If they mess up your dog, there aren’t any consequences. This makes you and your dog vulnerable to the repercussions of outdated and abusive methods.
